Patricia Lestari Taslim, S.Pd., M.Pd.
Founder PSGGC Jogja

Our meeting started from a casual chat on social media. At that time, we were all still unsure and even blind about what gifted children were. Me, Patricia, Rusmawati, and Alita. Personally, Patricia, as a mother, I realized that Lala, our daughter, was a gifted child after my child refused to study at school. At that time, we didn't even know that our daughter was a gifted child. (July 2014).
From the first meeting of the three of us, it finally continued with a second meeting at our house, which was also attended by three other friends: Decita, who lives in Bangkok and happened to be going home, we deliberately scheduled to get together, Herlina (Ms. Nina) and Didi.
Other parents in the city had the same worries. We started planning to continue to communicate and share happiness to strengthen each other. We are sure that there must be many other parents out there who have the same fate as us and need help. On that day, even though we had just met, we agreed to make our meeting useful for more parents of gifted children in the Jogja area.
We are like candles. Our light must be able to shine so that it is easy to find. We shared tasks; some created a Facebook group, and some created a WhatsApp group, and we started announcing it so that it could be found by those who needed it. Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, and months turned into years. Without realizing it, our group, which started with six parents domiciled in Jogja, finally had members from other areas. In 2024, entering its 11th year, the Parents Support Group for Gifted Children Jogja (PSGGC Jogja) grow into the Parents Support Group for Gifted Children Indonesia (PSGGI) and is ready to collaborate for Indonesia, for gifted children in Indonesia, and for gifted children around the world so that what we have been working on so far getting attention and the education of gifted children in Indonesia becomes better.

Prof. Dr. Hanna David
University of Tel Aviv, Israel

The field of gifted education is still, in spite of its being studied and practiced for over a century, full of lies, half-truths, prejudices, and superstitions. I am hereby going to explore some of the main ones concerning the connections between education and its level in general and the existence or non-existence of gifted education in the countries that have participated in the TIMSS examinations in 2019 and 2023. Here is the list of their most common ones:
1. Gifted education contributes to the measured achievements of students identified as gifted;
2. General gifted education helps to increase the rate of those reaching the ``Advanced International Benchmark`` in grades 4 and 8, both in mathematics and science;
3. Gifted students help to raise the educational level of the non-gifted;
4. The financial-technological level of a country depends on the small minority of individuals who contribute to it;
5. More intelligent nations have a higher rate of better educational achievements among a larger number of individuals;
6. Pre-school education contributes to excellence at later stages;
7.A country can either invest in education for the most able or the disadvantaged, underachievers.
All these assumptions are to be analyzed in depth in the five highest scorers among the TIMSS 2019 and 2023 participants, among those reaching a high percentage of students achieving the advanced international benchmark, through a comparison between the South-Eastern high scorers – Singapore, Hong Kong, the Republic of South Korea, Chinese Taipei, and Japan on one hand and the Russian Republic and Finland on the other, and one general main comparison – between the achievements of 2019, pre-covid-19, and those of 2023, in the post covid-19
Keywords: TIMSS, talented students
